Stock Market Opening: Indian stock market opened flat amid weak global cues; Nifty above 17,500

The Indian stock market started with a big fall on Monday due to weakness in global markets. The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex fell 299 points to 58,541 points and the National Stock Exchange's Nifty opened 89 points lower at 17,441 points. Till the time of writing the news, Nifty and Sensex are recovering and trading flat.

The strength of Nifty is seen in the government bank, energy and oil gas indices. While auto, IT, pharma, reality and media indices started with weakness.

Top Gainers and Losers

ONGC, Bajaj Finserv, M&M, Infosys, Eicher Motors, SBI, SBI Life, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank and Divis Lab are trading with gains in the Nifty pack. While the shares of UltraTech Cement, Asian Paints, Cipla, Titan, Tata Motors, Britannia and HCL Tech are trading with a fall.

IndusInd Bank, M&M Infosys, Bajaj Finserv, SBI, Axis Bank and HDFC Bank, Power Grid are trading with gains in the Sensex pack. At the same time, UltraTech Cement, Asian Paints, Titan and Maruti are trading with a decline.
